I began piping in 1973 at the age of seven. My first teacher was Ian Keith. I have also taken lessons from Ian MacDougall, Bob Forrest, Jack Lee, and Jim McGillvray.
I first joined the SFU Pipe Band in 1980. I competed with SFU until 1989 before moving to Ontario. I played with the 78th Fraser Highlanders in 1991 & 1992. In the fall of 1992, I returned to the west coast and rejoined SFU. I have competed at 25 World Pipe Band Championships, winning in 1995, 1999, 2001, 2008, and 2009.
In 2010, I won the Silver Medal Piobaireachd at the Northern Meeting. In 2009, I won the BCPA Grand Aggregate in the Professional Piping class for the third time. In 2010, I won the Piobaireachd at the BCPA Annual Gathering for the third time. In 2008, I won the BCPA Knock-out competition for the seventh time.
